Shimokita Hanto Tour 3
A brief three day tour of the Shimokita Hanto peninsula in Aomori, Japan.
A three day self-supported tour through the Shimokita Peninsula.
A highlight of the peninsula is the Yagen Valley which has recently been fully paved - creating a remote yet very accessible ride through the wilderness of Aomori.
Along the road through the valley there is a wild (free) onsen and close by a small paid onsen. There is also a fantastic campsite close by which I have camped at on previous trips through the area.
The north east of the peninsula is beautiful, though there is only one road in and out and there are very limited options to camp and stay in the area so plan in advance!
The east of the peninsula is Japans largest sand dune, which is mostly a military base. Because of the base you can only set foot on the beaches in the south area of the dunes.
